What is a network video management system?

Network video management system is a system where a network of security cameras are connected and managed through a software. The video management system(VMS) refers to a software that you can use to manage the entire system. This system can be used to manage the camera, make settings, view the feed and images from the camera, save the images and videos, and even create alerts to inform you of significant happens.

Features of the system

A network video management system has the following features that make it so indispensable:

• The video management system is connected to a computer system that has the software loaded on it. All the cameras that are part of the security system would be connected to the system.

• The connectivity may be through cables or it can even be wireless.

• The VMS can have motion detection whereby the cameras can be in standby mode, where there is no recording happening. Whenever the cameras detect any motion, recording can commence. This can help save a lot of data that is recorded. This feature ensures that an operator need not be present always to manage the system.

• The system can be used to operate the cameras. The camera direction can be changed remotely by using the system.

• The system can be used to search for videos based on date and time. Videos can be automatically backed up allowing efficient management of data.

• Whenever there is some abnormal activity, the system can have inbuilt settings that would trigger an alarm. This can be activated as a siren or an SMS or email sent to the security officers concerned so immediate action can be taken.
The above features make this system a highly effective one. This is the reason such systems are being used in most buildings.
